Acton Features (Feb' 2012)

Key Acton features are listed below. See detailed design docs here

Network Offerings

  • Create catalog of network offerings, similar to compute and disk offerings from available network services options. E.g.: Economical network offering based on virtual router and expensive network offering bsed on pysical devices
  • (bug: 8903, 11817)

  • Protocols: HTTP, TCP, UDP
  • Persistent Sessions: Source IP, LB-cookie & App-cookie based
  • bugs: 11417, 11567

Fine-grained Resource Management

  • Set resource limits per zone, pod & cluster
  • Notification threshold: alert when resource consumption exceeds this threshold
  • Capacity threshold: no future allocations if resource consumption exceeds this threshold

Usability/UI enhancements

Security enhancements

  • Encrypt senstive data
  • Use randomly generated UUIDs as resource IDs
  • Nonce in the API to protect against replay attacks

Burbank (Jul' 2012)

Burbank release is in planning stage. It is intended to be a minor release, similar to Bonita, with critical bug fixes and minor enhancements. But, based on huge demand, we are introducing support for inter-VLAN routig and multi-tier applications in this release, even though it's a major feature. See details here.

Multi-tier Applications

  • Create multi-tier VMs; Define start, stop sequencing rules of VM-tiers
  • Specify Networks connecting the VM-tiers
  • Configure firewall and load balancing rules to control traffic between tiers and to Internet
  • Governance: quotas & leases to control usage

Site-to-Site VPNs

  • Connect data center to cloud infrastucture through a secure tunnel

Campo (Q4' 2012)

Regions

  • AWS-style Regions to support geographically distributed data-centers
  • Region-wide secondary storage
  • Management Server in HA mode

IPv6

  • Support for guest V6 addressing

Resource Scaling

  • Dynamic scaling of CPU, RAM, vNics?
  • Volume resize

Dedicated Resource Models

  • Private pod, cluster, host: assign pod, cluster, host to a Domain/Account
