Can I limit the maximum uptime per instance?

In VMWare vCloud Director I can limit the runtime of VM instances and prevent the VM proliferation, this limits are extendable by the end user.

No one seams to care about this but....

I've found a partial solution.

First I've tried to create a file in /etc/init/cloudstack.conf with:



But that didn't work so I took a look at the set password script and figured that it needed to have the network interface initialized to work so I removed the script from all run levels with:



and also removed the /etc/init/cloudstack.conf I had created and configured my network interface like this:



and that seams to solve the problem...

The thing is that I dont know if when I convert the VM into a template and instantiate a new VM from it the /etc/network/interfaces will be overwritten...

any ideas?

PS: I've also modified the password script to use chpasswd insted of passwd --stdin since ubuntu does not have the --stdin option in passwd and both ubuntu and centos have chpasswd but that was/is not the problem because usermod with mkpasswd was working...

I'm testing CloudStack 3 and have successively created an ubuntu template with VMWare tools pre-installed and also with the reset password script.

The problem is that when I instantiate a new VM using that template, cloudstack gives-me a root password that does not work.
Fortunately I've added a backup account to the template and I can use that to login into the VM.

If after I instantiate the new VM I login into it using the backup account and then manually set the root password to match the one given by cloudstack, the reset password functionality starts working perfectly....

Any ideas???

You announce LDAP Support but there is no useful documentation on this.

I've red the Admin Guide and the wiki page (docs.cloudstack.org/CloudStack_Documenta.../LDAP_Authentication)

And I'm unable to setup LDAP authentication...

I've created an ldapConfig url using the info from the wiki and the settings from my LDAP server, opened it in a browser and all I've got was a JSON response with the same info I had provided in the url.... Nothing changed in the cloudstack.

Could someone update the wiki page with relevant information?

I've done some extra debugging.

Used nmap to find where ssh was running and tryed:

Permission denied (publickey).

there seams to ave been some problem with the ssh keys generation.

I'm testing CloudStack to see how it compares to vCloud Director from VMWare, I've successfully installed and a single managment server and configured it to use a previously configured vCenter Cluster, I can see my VMWare hosts and storages, the system VMs are running and when I try to deploy a VM using the CentOS template that comes with CloudStack, a router Virtual appliance is started but I get an error message saying that the vm could not be deployed.
